Listening and Doing

But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

As you read this today, I bet there is a high tendency of fear and the world is in total confusion and uncertainty about what would happen in the next couple of hours, days, weeks and months ahead. The Coronavirus (Covid-19), pandemic has created so much news around the world that we hardly hear anything else apart from the news of statistics of deaths and carriers of this very popular virus, a noisome pestilence, as described by Psalm 91:3 (KJV), “…the noisome pestilence.”

So much publicity and media coverage have been freely given to the above mentioned menace. This is the strategy of the devil to perpetrate evil in order to shift the attention of the saints from truth of the word of God and for a moment, I want to remind you of the truth in the word, as recorded by apostle James about Listening and Doing the Word. Both were put together in the same scenario for a reason, listening, and not doing is never a complete divine process.

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” James 1:22-25 (NLT)

The Success of Our Race

We have all been instructed by Jesus to pick up our cross and follow Him and be His disciple. If a man or a woman cannot walk with God, regardless of their situation, and be willing to serve God with all their strength and might, they are not worthy of this calling. The call to serve, which has been issued to every child of God is a mandate to a selfless service. What has God been asking you to do and what is the divine burden on your heart, which you have been postponing or totally ignored? The pandemic, loss of a job, marital breakdown, or the death of a loved one is not enough to throw-in the towel.

What do we stand to gain in this race if we follow the divine instruction to the letter?

  1. Eternal security
  2. Peace (Even in the midst of pandemic)
  3. Joy (That overflows)
  4. Divine blessings of all sorts
  5. Liberty from the law of sin

It is therefore very crucial today for you to be reminded that all hope is not lost. There is hope of eternity even if death comes; you have a hope of eternal rest with Jesus. Here is another opportunity for you, if you have not met with Jesus before now. Regardless of whatever you have done and the kind of life you have lived, Jesus loves you and wants you at all cost. The true evidence of this was laying down His life for you to have a new life, and to begin to enjoy liberty from the law of sin. “That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts…” (Joel 2:12).
